Ellinger Watercolor

Large Ellinger (American 1913-2003) horse and rider watercolor on laid paper in original paint decorated frame. Signed next to the rider's leg and with wonderful note in verso which reads "For Doug. Hope you enjoy my painting of the horse. I have one for myself which I painted after this one. You have No 1. Best Wishes - David". There is also a signature Ellinger stylized heart and tulip under the note. We have never seen a similar example of Ellinger's work and he may have only ever made the two to which he refers in his note. Frame - 17" x 20". Sight - 13" x 16".

Odd Fellows Lodge Pedestal

Odd Fellows lodge pedestal with original dry, polychrome painted surface including it's faux marble top. Painting of heart-in hand, serpent and banded canes done by a highly accomplished hand. Circa 1850. A wonderful piece of folk art for displaying a weathervane or another folk art item. Height - 31", Top - 16" square.

PA Paint Decorated Chairs

A nice clean set of six half-spindle Pennsylvania paint decorated chairs with grape and foliage decoration on a light green ground. The chairs are in excellent condition with very minimal wear and good crisp colors. They were found in Harleysville, PA where they resided in a temperature controlled garage for the last thirty years.

Medinger Redware Vase

Redware double-handled vase made by Jacob Medinger (1856-1932) of Neiffer, Limerick Township, Montgomery County, PA. The Medinger pottery was founded by Jacob's father William in 1872 and remained operational until Jacob's kiln related accidental death in 1932. The glaze on this piece is exceptional. Height - 11".

Frank Finney Carved Robin

Wonderful carved robin by noted Capeville, Virginia folk artist Frank Finney. It is in excellent condition and is signed on the bottom with Finney's signature ink stamp which he used in the 1980's. Length - 7", Height - 4".

Mormon Hooked Rug

This rare and very punchy hooked rug was found at a garage sale outside of Ogden, Utah and brought east by the purchaser. It is definitely of Mormon origin as identified by the beehive and bees in the middle section. The beehive is a common Mormon symbol that represents industry, harmony and frugality of the people. It also speaks to the sweet results of their toil, union and intelligent cooperation. The houses and accompanying trees are very folky. Note the apples on the tree in the bottom panel. Dating to the late nineteenth or very early twentieth century, this textile is in great condition with good crisp colors. Professionally mounted by Kathy Wilson. Size - 32" x 21".

Paint decorated blanket chest from Lancaster County, Pa. in original vibrant flame feather graining. Circa 1850. The nicely proportioned chest is made of softwood with a dovetailed case, an interior till and original grabber lock and turned feet. Length - 39 1/2", Height - 25", Width - 19".

Philadelphia Windsor Chair

Unmarked Philadelphia bowback Windsor armchair with the best early red painted surface over the original dark green. This chair exhibits excellent form as evidenced by the shaped seat and bold reverse curves on the arms and arm supports. Circa 1785-1800. The crest rail is either hickory or oak; the spindles, arm supports, legs and stretchers are maple; and the seat is poplar. Expected wear to legs. Reference The Windsor Style in America by Charles Santore, Vol I, page 124 and Vol II, pages 120 and 121 for similar examples.

PA Child's Drysink

Late nineteenth century Pennsylvania child's drysink made of walnut and chestnut. This piece, which retains it's original dry apple-green painted surface, has a nicely figured back-splash over two chamfered mortised and pinned doors. There is minor wear to the surface consistent with age and use. Height 22 1/2", Width - 30", Depth - 18".

Reggie Birch Mergansers

Wonderful pair of red breasted merganser decoys carved and painted by Reggie Birch of Chincoteague, VA. The turned heads on this large pair create a terrific appearance. They are both signed (with Reggie's signature carved name and in ink) and dated 1993 on the bottom adjacent to the lead weights. The drake is 20" in length and the hen 18".

Bob White Mallard Decoy

Signed mallard drake carved and painted by Bob White of Tullytown, PA. This decoy is one of Bob's earliest works and dates to the 1960's. It exhibits the rare "Christmas Tree" feathering that he used on only about twelve mallards. The bird is in excellent original condition and would be a fine addition to any collection. Length - 19".

Stahl Redware Sgraffito Plate

Rare sgraffito leaping stag plate made by Isaac Stahl of the Stahl Pottery in Powder Valley, PA. The plate is bordered with a PA German script along with trailing vines. It is dated July 20, 1936 which is only two years after Isaac and Thomas Stahl reopened the pottery started by their father Charles Stahl in the late 19th century. This piece is in excellent original condition and would be a great addition to any Stahl Pottery collection. Diameter - 10".
