Pair of butternut or pine candlesticks made, decorated and signed by Pennsylvania artist Paul W. Eshelman. Eshleman was a 1st generation studio wood worker who sought to find artistic expression in simple, utilitarian wooden objects. His pieces are considered masterpieces of form and graceful execution. Several of his works are in the collection of the New York City Museum of Art & Design. Along with Wharton Esherick, Bob Stocksdale and James Pristini, Eshelman exhibited together at the 1858 World's fair In Brussels. Height - 7 1/2".

Southeastern Pennsylvania walnut slide lid candle or document box with desirable dry attic surface. Rectangular dovetailed case with original lock and escutcheon over a molded base. Gradually chamfered lid with three small finger catches. It is important to note the molding on the lid is carved in relief from a single piece of walnut and is not applied. Circa 1790-1810. Dimensions - 9 1/2 x 8 x 6 inches.

Carved eagle with banner in the style of John Haley Bellamy of Kittery Point Maine. This fine eagle was made by the Boston Artistic Carving Company in the 1940’s. It is made from pine and retains its original polychrome painted surface with good crisp colors. There are no repairs or restoration. Width - 27 inches.

Circa 1830 watercolor on paper of a young girl in a red polka dot dress wearing a red beaded necklace. She is holding what appears to be an Easter basket with eggs. The colors are very crisp and there is only very minor toning. Watercolor dimensions are 5” x 7”.

Contemporary carved owl and crow tree capturing the adversarial relationship between the Great Horned Owl and crows. The Great Horned Owl pillages the nests of crows for the eggs. Wonderful small winter scene oil on board by Sheldon Parsons (1866-1943) of Rochester, NY. Parsons studied at the National Academy of Design with William Merritt Chase and Edgar Ward. Prior to moving West in 1913 to join the Taos & Santa Fe artist colony, Parsons was a very successful portrait painter in New York City. He also was known for his landscape paintings of rural West Chester County. This is an excellent example of his impressionistic style. Signed S. Parsons in the lower right hand corner. Folk art carving of President Dwight D. Eisenhower made by Samuel Intravia (1890-1992) of East Hartford, Connecticut. Intravia was a retired owner of a commercial furniture crafting business and is known to have made two other similar carvings: one of John Kennedy and the other of Abraham Lincoln. Made of pine with original polychrome painted surface. The front of the desk is carved in relief with a significant level of detail. A newspaper article showing Intravia with his carvings accompanies the piece. Height - 20", Width - 21".

Carved parrot made by master carver John Holloway of West Creek, NJ in the manor of 19th century Pennsylvania carver Schtockschnitzler Simmons. Presented on a lathe-turned base. Original polychrome painted surface with an excellent patina. John made only a handful of carved parrots during his twenty-five years of carving. This is the only carving by Holloway, bird trees or otherwise, that is signed on the base in longhand. His works are usually signed with his signature initials JRH. Height - 12".

Really nice ceramic garden gnome formed, decorated and fired by Lucile "Lu" Martin (1910-2000) of Syracuse, Illinois. Lucile was a self taught artist who made a limited number of large ceramic figural items primarily for her family and friends, and for her own keeping. Her very creative whimsical works were not sold commercially. Note the small bird in the gnome's right hand. Signed and dated 1970. Height - 25".
