John Holloway Bird Tree
Wonderful bird tree by master carver John Holloway of Parkertown,
NJ. John is both a noted and award winning decoy carver who has
been at his trade for over thirty years. He is listed in Loy
Harrell Jr's book entitled "Sixty Living & Outstanding
North American Carvers". John became interested in creating
bird trees after seeing examples of 19th century Simmons bird
tees in Richard Machmer's book "Just For Nice". The
carving and the painted surface on the birds are fantastic and
have a period appearance. The triangular portion of the base
is chipped carved. John's output of bird trees is very limited
and they are hard to find. This is the only Holloway bird tree
I am aware of with a cardinal, an oriole and two hummingbirds.
If you are familiar with bird trees made by other contemporary
carvers like Noyes and Strawser, hopefully you will agree that
John's work is exceptional in comparison. Height - 24".
