Hudson River School Painting

Unsigned Hudson River School oil on canvas depicting two men with a sailboat along the shoreline and numerous sailboats on the horizon. Circa 1850. Possibly original period frame. Provenance - Ex Michael Schnall collection. Sight - 22 x 16".

John Holloway Decoys

Matched pair of Pintails carved and painted by John Holloway of Parkertown, NJ. John is a well known carver who has won many awards and is highlighted in Loy S. Harrell's book Sixty Living and Outstanding North American Carvers. The pair are in excellent original condition. Circa 1995. Length - 17 1/2".

A pair of nineteenth century Indian clubs in original faux mahogany paint decorated surface with gold banding. Height - 15 1/2".

Wilbert Brant Decoy

Brant decoy in a "preening pose" made by Charlie Wilbert of Island Beach, NJ. This bird retains it's original painted surface and is stamped on the bottom with Charlie's signature CW. It dates to the 1950's. Charlie passed on about 15 years ago. Length - 17 1/2".

Delaware River Scaup

Delaware River Scaup or Bluebill drake in original working paint and in very good condition. As indicated on the bottom, this decoy originated in Bordentown, NJ and was from a rig owned by B. Colby. Note the position of the weight in the rear of the bird which allowed it to sit up in swift river current. Circa 1940. Length - 14".

New Jersey Blackduck

Blackduck hen made by Eugene Hendrickson (1896-1971) of Northfield, NJ. This decoy retains it's original scratch coat paint with remnants of cork flocking over-paint. The scratch paint, inletted weight, blocky tail and tack eyes are signature Hendrickson features. Circa 1920-30. Length - 16".

Owl Tree

Rare and wonderful contemporary owl tree carved by John Holloway of Parkertown, NJ. This is an excellent example of John's carving and decorating ability. John is in his seventies and has been a decoy carver most of his life. He started making bird trees about eight years ago and only recently has made a very limited number of owl trees. He is listed in Loy Harrell Jr's book "Sixty Living and Outstanding North American Carvers". Height - 23"

Rare hollow body chalkware angel with original yellow, red and green paint decoration. Height - 9".

Double-Sided Mahogany Cake Board

Rare double-sided mahogany cake board of American origin, possibly by John Congor or one of his contemporary. This is one of the smallest cake boards we have seen at 7 1/2" x 6". There is a wonderfully executed horse on one side and a nest of birds with leaves on the reverse. The piece retains an excellent dry, original surface and the initials FLB carved on the edge. Dana Tillou provenance.

New England Gameboard

Found in Maine. Pine double-sided folding gameboard with graphic original painted surface - checkers on the outside with backgammon on the inside. The color combination of taupe and maroon, along with a border of green and yellow, give the checkerboard side an exceptional aesthetic appeal. The colors on the backgammon side are just as crisp and appealing. The board folds into the shape of a book. Circa 1890. Dimensions - 15" square.

California Impressionist Painting - Angel Espoy

Oil on canvas of California lupines and poppies by Angel Espoy - American/Spanish (1879-1963). Espoy was born in Villa Nueva, Spain and immigrated to New York City in 1914. He moved to San Francisco in 1914 and eventually found his way to Southern California where he painted costal scenes until his death. This wonderful painting remains in it's original frame. 11 1/2" x 8 1/2" excluding frame.

Game Wheel

Early to mid 20th century game wheel with it's original polychrome painted surface and all it's original pins. This piece has terrific colors and displays well because of it's small size. Diameter - 21".

Early twentieth century whirligig with double windmills and a large directional arrow. This wonderful piece of folk art retains it's original blue and yellow painted surface. Length - 43", Height - 40".

Folk Art Trinket Box

Very folky Pennsylvania walnut trinket box with wonderful inlaid hearts, diamonds, stars and circles made of maple, oak and ash. The front of the box has the inlaid initials J. T. S. Note the PA German backwards S. Lock and two original dividers missing. Length - 11", Depth - 6", Height - 6".

Native American Elm Burl Bowl

Large Native American elm burl bowl from the Eastern Great Lakes region, possibly made by the Ojibwa tribe. The bowl dates to the 1720-1750 period and exhibits a wonderful flared form and a surface that speaks to it's age. This rare Native American piece is in pristine overall condition. Length (at the top) - 18", Width (at the top) - 13". Height - 6".

Odd Fellows Lodge Pedestal

Odd Fellows lodge pedestal with original dry, polychrome painted surface including it's faux marble top. Painting of heart-in hand, serpent and banded canes done by a highly accomplished hand. Circa 1850. A wonderful piece of folk art for displaying a weathervane or another folk art item. Height - 31", Top - 16" square.

Tool Carrier

Early 20th century tool carrier with flared sides in original polychrome painted surface. Found in Michigan, this folky design was most likely personalized by the owner with the initial "F". Length - 31", Width - 10".

Paint Decorated Wall Box

Late 19th or early 20th century wall box with an excellent original polychrome painted surface. The combination of the blue decoration on the red ground provides a very punchy presence to this wonderful piece of folk art. Found in Montgomery County, PA but may have originated in Berks County. Height -11", Width - 10", Depth - 4".

Ellinger Still Life Study

Pencil and crayon still-life study by David Y. Ellinger entitled "Cocks Comb and Coleus". The piece is signed D. Ellinger in the bottom right hand corner and on the back with his signature looping heart. The inscription on the back reads "To John - all Best Success and Wishes. D.Y. Ellinger. This is clearly a one of a kind work by Ellinger in it's original black and green paint decorated frame. 8 x 11".

Small "Reward Of Merit" fraktur probably from Bucks County, PA in original period frame. This little gem has nice crisp colors with very minor foxing. Height - 5 1/4", Width - 4 1/4" (excluding frame)

Pennsylvania Trade Sign

Late 19th or early 20th century trade sign with crisp gold, green and yellow block lettering on a dark red ground with a black border. The sign is in wonderful original condition with absolutley no in-painting or restoration. It is an excellent size and makes for a terrific display.

Carved Night Heron

This large carved and painted night heron was made by Ken Kirby. It is made of pine with paint that gives the piece a wonderfully accurate, yet folky, presence. Height - 12", Length - 19".

Diorama Circa 1930 depicting the fishing boat titled "Sealer". Probably New England. The bottom corners read "No Catch" and "No Wind". Undisturbed condition with crisp paint.

Late 19th or early 20th century. With original black, yellow, maroon and white paint.

Pear-Shaped Chip Carved Treenware Container Circa 1850

Found in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
Lathe turned from single piece of wood with hundreds of "diamond cuts" and remnants of chrome yellow/green paint. Stem of pear is paint grained in wavy pattern.
Wonderful size, form and color.
